Loveland/Echo question
Does anyone know if Loveland still has a park up, and what's set up? Any interesting rails?
How about Echo?
I'm thinking about getting some last minute shots at Loveland or Echo for my end-of-season video. I wanna know if it's worth it since the film guy doesn't have a pass and instead of paying him, I buy him lift tickets. Not a bad deal if you ask me!
There's always A-Basin but I just can't seem to get in the zone there. That place sketches me out, I'd be going at a good speed to get on a box, then when I get on it, I slow down a lot... damn sticky boxes! It could just be in my head though... there is that up box (rewind box) that is really sticky but I love it anyways haha! I also think that A-Basin is fickle. It will be nice and sunny and slushy and woo! then it'll get cloudy and windy and icy really fast. I could try though, A-Basin is my last resort. Please let me know if Loveland has anything good! Thanks everyone!

Gnu B-Street BTX 145

Mountain: Arapahoe Basin, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge, Copper, Keystone, etc.
Weather: A whole variety; from warm sunny days to cold, windy shitty days
Snow: Groomers to powder to ice
Bindings: K2 Auto A Go Go then Ride Zeta
Boots: 32 Lashed size 6.5
OH GOD I LOVE THIS BOARD!! Here, we have a Gnu B-Street 145, it has both the banana technology and magnetraction. The banana is kinda like the rocker, but instead of being outside the bindings, it's between the bindings, giving the board a kind-of-banana-like shape when viewed sideways. The magnetraction is on the sides, and you can see it because it's kind of wavy. It's supposed to grip on ice well, and I can vouch for this. It's also supposed to make initiating turns super easy. The edge hold on this board is sooo good that sometimes when I don't want it to hold an edge, it still does... so it's not too great in choppy conditions. That, or maybe detuning the edges would help. I haven't detuned mine, I don't generally detune my edges anyways.
GRAPHICS - I love the graphics! It looks like a painting, and compared to the picture above, the board in real life looks a lot better; the colors are brighter, not pastel-y like in the picture. When I'm done with this board, I'm so hanging this on the wall.
FLEX - Soft!!!! Nosepresses are no problem on this board, I absolutely love nosepressing it on boxes, but beware, too much press and you'll flip over, haha. It's definitely a lot softer than my K2 Duchess.
BOXES AND RAILS - Love it here! I tried spinning it on boxes and it spins like a top. It's also so easy to press that I can do what I like to call, "NOSEPRESS NOSESLIDE COMBO!!!!!!" The lovely Shay captured a picture of said feat in action:

JUMPS - The board also excelled here, I really have a blast jumping. So easy to spin too! I have gotten some 5's when I was really trying for 3's, and 3's when I tried for 180s. I wonder if it's cheating if you ride this board in comps? Haha.
GROOMERS - Although soft, this board is very stable at high speeds on groomed runs. Carving is absolutely effortless it's stupid. The magnetraction holds an edge so well and lets me turn fast and smoothly. I have rode over solid ice before, and while that sketches me out, the board still holds an edge great. I have stayed on edge on ice, hell, I've even tried stopping on ice, and the board just did wonderful. I didn't slip out or wash out.
POWDER - Floats so well!!!! Yes, this is a 145CM and I have rode it in powder! It also turns great! I rode at Vail one day, and it was the deepest I had ever ridden, my hands were dragging through the snow whenever I turned... oh god, it felt so great. So smoooooooth and just floats. However, once the powder gets tracked out and choppy, this board is so hard to ride. It really tries to hold an edge when you don't want it to over the chop, so it gives my legs a work out. Haha. It's still do-able though but not a very comfortable ride. This is the only thing I don't like about the B-Street.
OVERALL - This board pretty much rides similar to my K2 Duchess, except it's softer. If you're new to the Banana and Magenetraction, it might get some getting used to. It took me probably a day before I had it on lock down. I would say this is the perfect board for the park gal who also likes to explore the mountain. I use this board for everything and I don't see why you shouldn't! The only con is that this board is so damn expensive at retail price! It's like, $460 or something ridiculous! But worth every penny in my opinion!
2009-2010 Capix Helmets
For the 2009-2010 season, Capix helmets are coming out with snowboard helmets. You might have seen some people on the mountain sporting the Capix Skate Cap, which is actually a skateboarding helmet (also cheaper compared to a snowboard helmet!) and can be worn backwards. For those who like Capix's style but have been begging for a snowboard line, well, your wishes have come true! Capix certainly went all-out with the snowboard helmets, they even have some pro signature helmets along with collaboration helmets. For those who are curious, the Capix team are Louie Vito, Chris Dufficy, Pat Milbery, Chanelle Sladics, Dave Fortin, Jake Devine, and Aaron Shapiro.
Here's the non-collaboration, non-pro signature snowboard helmets:
Other available colors: Black, Gray, White
Other available colors: Black with black and red "C" and straps, White with white and green "C" and straps, Blue with blue and white "C" and straps
Other available colors: Red with blue ear covers thing, Blue with white ear covers, White with white ear covers
Other available colors: Black, Blue with white ear covers, Brown with black (I think) ear covers

Other available colors: Black with black and white zebra stripes on straps, Brown with brown and pink zebra strips on straps, White with white and baby blue zebra stripes on straps
Sidenote: I personally own this helmet in blue, and I LOVE IT! The blue is really bright, it's so intense! The helmet also has some kind of rubbery material on it, it feels like a dolphin. If you've ever touched one before, you know what I'm talking about.

Finally, the pro models helmets:

Louie Vito Helmet

Chris Dufficy Helmet

Pat Milbery Helmet
Sidenote: this one surprised me because he's always wearing his Skate Cap, he even has it on in his picture (below) in the catalog right next to his pro model helmet! Haha

140+ Days
HOLY SHNIKES! I have 140+ days now, I lost count after day #113. That is AWESOME! I usually averaged like 60-70 days a season, depending on when Hidden Valley Ski in St. Louis opened and closed, so this is totally new to me! Haha! So stoked and I'm not over it by any means! I am kinda over the driving part, though... that's 140+ days of driving back and forth from Denver!
Unfortunately, our mountain assault vehicle is out of commision until hopefully tomorrow! I was driving home from uhhhhhh.... Copper, I think it was closing day or the day before that. Anyways, conditions downright sucked, but not bad. I drove in some snow, but that cleared up after Silver Plume. It snowed still, but didn't stick. It was big, wet snowflakes so I had the windshield wipers on fast and it was scary passing semis! When I hit Idaho Springs, it was starting to get foggy but not bad. As I got closer to the Golden exit where 70 becomes 3 lanes, I started seeing signs on the way saying, "Accident Ahead, 13 miles, detour in place at Exit 2 something." "Great, another jackass crashed and messed up traffic," I thought to myself. The irony of this is that 70 was closed that morning, but they reopened it at noon or so. They should had just left the damn highway closed, or at least at this section. As I got closer to the exit, WHOA. The fog became totally THICK, I couldn't see 10 feet in front of me clearly. I slowed down and was able to stop in time when I saw stopped traffic.
I'm sitting here, and I think, "Oh shit. I'm the last car now. I better not get hit."
OK, remember I said there were signs saying "Accident ahead", and the fog? Well apparently some people didn't put one and one together. PAY ATTENTION AND SLOW THE FUCK DOWN, AND YOU WON'T HIT ANYONE!
I'm watching my mirror, and it's so scary, haha... sitting duck, seeing headlights appearing suddenly and then swerving away. Some guy came and stopped behind me, and I sighed with relief... then he moved over. Damn. A SUV in the fast lane came FLYING and crushed the stopped car. The impact was so strong when they hit the snowbank, snow flew across all 3 lanes and covered my windshield completely. Fuck. No question about it, I'm definitely going to get hit. My boyfriend couldn't hold my hand and tell me it was OK, he had one too many drinks and was sleeping like a baby. I see another set of headlights in my mirror, really close to me now, and they finally swerved, but not before clipping the mountain assault vehicle. Well, at least the part where I was all like, "Fuck, I'm gonna get hit" was over now. The WRX that hit us went up the snowbank and was stuck there, and I waited for more cars to stop and back up traffic before getting out and seeing if the driver was OK. What, did you think I was gonna get out and stand on 70 in thick fog and risk getting hit? No sir, just waited for traffic to stop and back up. That didn't take long, and the driver was OK but his car was stuck. His car was messed up. From a quick look, he needed a new headlight, hood, bumper, left fender. Our Kia in comparison fared better, just needed a new taillight and bumper, and a little piece under the taillight. I helped the guy dig out his WRX and another guy came and offered to help tow him out with his pick up truck. While digging, a little SUV (Like a Honda CRV type) full of incredibly white boys my age were in the lane by the shoulder, so they were like right there. They just stared at us like, "Damn!" and laughed and kept pointing. I stopped digging and said loud enough for people to around them hear too, "Hey, you know, instead of sitting there laughing and fucking pointing [I do big exaggerated pointing motions like you see gapers do], you can come out and fucking help us, or shut up and keep driving [at this point they look straight ahead and roll up the windows]." Before the window shut all the way, I yelled at the driver, "COOL UNDERARMOR!!!!!!!!!!" and threw the horns. They probably thought I was a huge bitch but that made me feel better.
Thanks to the guy in the pick up truck and the SUV for helping us dig out the WRX, and a big thanks to everyone who asked if we were OK. I got the WRX's insurance info and we both parted ways. Got home safely and SLEPT. My boyfriend didn't remember a thing.
I have a bitchin Caliber for my rental, and IT SUCKS! It's a slow-ass car and it feels so weird when it shifts... the steering wheel jerks over and it feels like the car will spin out or slide off the road. Scary. And it shakes like crazy at 70+ mph.... haha.... my boyfriend calls people who ride on their brakes or use their brakes a lot "Brakey McFuckskins" and he called the Caliber "Shakey McFuckskins." Rather appropriate.
